P/Pare pip E/Kameng to emerge champion of Maiden Girls Tournament for Subroto Cup

ITANAGAR, Sep 15: Papum Pare district emerged as the champion of the 1st Under-17 Girls State Level Football Tournament for Subroto Cup edging past East Kameng district 4-3 via tie-breaker in a hard-fought final match played at SLSA ground, Chimpu near here today.

The match was tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation time of 70 minutes. However, 10 minutes of extra time could not break the deadlock and the match, therefore, had to be decided on penalties.

But, the East Kameng took the lead with Mechang Veo scoring the first goal in 17th minute. Devi Dada doubled the tally with a 53rd minute goal. Making a comeback, the Papum Pare girls reduced the margin to 2-1 as Boriya Babylon struck in 57th minute. Later, Gyamar Hania came up with the equalizer in 65th minute.

In the tie-breaker, Papum Pare scored twice while the EK team found the target only once thereby conceding the match and winner’s trophy to PP.

Gania Leij, Director of Secondary Education and Marken Kadu, Jt Director of Secondary Education graced the closing ceremony.
