7th Eagle Football Championship begins today, Capital Complex to face FC Doimukh

ITANAGAR, Sep 21: 7th Eagle Football Championship is getting underway at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun tomorrow.

In the inaugural match of the tournament, Capital Complex FC (CCFC) will take on FC Doimukh, informed John Neelam, Director, Competition.


President to confer India’s highest adventure award to Anshu Jamsenpa

ITANAGAR, Sep 21: President Ram Nath Kovind will confer India’s highest adventure award ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award’, instituted by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, to Dr Anshu Jamsenpa of Arunachal Pradesh on September 25 next at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

This is in recognition of her persistent mountaineering achievements in the past few years. She scripted history by climbing Mt Everest twice in five days. Her two attempts in the year 2014 and 2015 had to be abandoned half way through due to avalanche and earthquake in the Everest region, which killed 16 climbing sherpas and 22 other mountaineers respectively.

In spite of all odds she became the first and only woman in the world to do two Double Ascents of Mt Everest and the first Indian woman to summit Mt Everest five times. She also holds the unique record of scaling three Himalayan Peaks (Lobuche – 20075 ft, Pokhalde – 19343 ft & Island Peak – 20305 ft) in just six days, which is unparalleled in the mountaineering history.

Dr Jamsenpa will dedicate this prestigious award to women around the globe who everyday struggle hard to achieve their goal, whether big or small.

Tsering Wange president Arunachal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Association and Capt Raaj Kumar (retd) will accompany Dr Jamsenpa during the gala award function.
