BJP, Congress pay tributes to Gandhi

ITANAGAR, Oct 2: To mark the 149th Gandhi Jayanti, the BJP Arunachal Pradesh led by State president Tapir Gao today carried out a cleanliness drive in the capital and distributed fruits packets to the indoor patients of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) at Naharlagun.

The day started with garlanding of the statue of the Father of the Nation at Mini Gandhi Park at Niti Vihar. The function was also attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and many other dignitaries.

Afterward, the State BJP president along with local MLA Techi Kaso, and the rank and file of the party drove down to TRIHMS and carried out a clean drive at the hospital compound.

While distributing the fruits to the patients, Gao wished them early recovery from their ailments while telling them that it was a Gandhi Jayanti gesture of love and affection from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP party.

The BJP team also distributed fruits the students of Donyi Polo Vidya Niketan, Pachin Colony in a function organised by the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). On the occasion, an interaction was also held with the school authority with the State BJP president discussing matters in connection with welfare of the school.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) led by its president Takam Sanjoy celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi here at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan with the party rank and file paying floral tributes to the portrait of Bapuji. AICC secretary & in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh Zenith Sangma and MLA Markio Tado were also present on the occasion.

Zenith Sangma, in his speech, recalled the contributions made by Gandhiji in achieving freedom for the country and also his ultimate sacrifice for the cause of peace and non-violence.

He also said that Gandhian philosophy teaches us to maintain peace, communal harmony and universal brotherhood which are keys to development. He appealed the party workers and people in general to follow the path shown by Gandhiji for peace and non-violence in the world.

After the programme, Sangma and Sanjoy flagged off the INC rally involving about 2000 members and a convoy of more than 200 vehicles from the party head office to Palin, where a mass rally will be held on October 3.

To mark the Gandhi Jayanti, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) organized a social service at Gandhi Market, Naharlagun today. The programme has stated with the members paying rich tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, additional chief organizer Kipa Tagung said Gandhiji was one of the prominent leaders of the country’s freedom struggle who had proved the world that freedom can be had with truth
