DC reiterates on maintaining peace as agitators ‘call off’ economic blockade

PANGIN, Oct 6: In an attempt to sort out various ongoing issues and to achieve overall betterment for Siang district, a coordination meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk and attended by SP Kushal Pal Singh, admin officers of DC office, Pangin and public leaders from Pangin area.

In his speech, the DC informed that the meeting was specifically called to have a detailed discussion on various issues facing Pangin area in presence of all stakeholders so as to reach at an amicable solution.

Stating that the present scenario in the area was hugely detrimental for development of the district and adversely affecting maintenance of peace in the area, he appealed the leaders to call off the ongoing economic blockade in the area and to join hands with District Administration to work towards development of the district and its people.

He also advised them to place their demands, if any, in the form of a memorandum to the govt.

Speaking on the occasion, the SP thanked all leaders for cooperating with the administration and police and for not resorting to violent means for pursuing their demands.  Stating that the common populace was the most impacted, he urged the parties not to carry the blockade any further.

After extensive deliberation, the agitators agreed to call off the economic blockade with effect from midday of 6th Oct for two months paving the way for further dialogue.

However, they placed several demands namely establishment of independent ADC headquarters at Pangin,  continuation of and establishment of some departments in Pangin, reinstatement of the HGBs and GBs who had resigned, making Pangin a part of twin district headquarters and for Pangin to remain the temporary district HQs till completion of the mini secretariat at Boleng.

The DC reiterated his appeal for maintenance of peace saying peace and patience are pre-requisites for development. (DIPRO)
