Unveiling of Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo statue marks launch of Guru Diwas celebration

ITANAGAR, Oct 5: The unveiling of 20-ft-high statue of Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo, the ‘Guru’ of indigenous faiths of the State, by Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra at the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK), Pasighat in East Siang district today amidst a huge gathering of delegates from various indigenous faiths & beliefs of the state and neighbouring Assam, marked the launch of the three-day Guru Diwas celebration.

Addressing a mammoth gathering, the Governor called upon the people to carry forward the work of Late Talom Rukbo to perceive his philosophy of indigenous faiths and preserve, protect, and progress it. Late Rukbo’s ideas were full of humanism, amity and open mindedness, he said.

Paying his respect to Late Rukbo, the founder of Indigenous faiths movement in the State and Donyi-Poloism, the Governor said that Late Rukbo ‘was the Light of Arunachal Pradesh’.

The Governor said that in the best traditions of the indigenous faiths onus lies on the believers to promote all-round amity, cooperation and coexistence in the State. He advised the people to welcome those members of the communities who have distanced themselves. The Governor emphasised that they have also the responsibility to safeguard the rich cultural values of the tribes of the entire State.

The Governor suggested the people to develop their own script to propagate their indigenous cultural heritage, traditions and customs.

Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) secretary Bai Taba also spoke.

Governor’s better half, Neelam Misra, Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia, Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang, Power Minister Tamiyo Taga, Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, MLAs Tatung Jamoh, Kaling Moyong, Olom Panyang, Lombo Tayeng, Gum Tayeng and Tapang Taloh among others were present.

Earlier, the Governor and his better half were given a rousing reception by Delong Padung from Golgi Bote Statue Erection Committee, Ajem Tayeng from CDPYK and Tajom Tajom Tasung from IFCSAP, among others.
