1 arrested for cheating youths on pretext of providing jobs

Itanagar, Oct 6: The City Police has arrested one Sanjay Das for allegedly cheating the youths of the State on the pretext of providing them jobs.

Confirming the arrest, Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan informed that a complaint was lodged at Naharlagun PS by two youths that they had seen posters regarding jobs. When contacted, they (complainants) were asked to pay Rs 2500 each as administrative charges. The jobs were of helper, supervisor, marketing executive, etc. But they never materialized. It was alleged that more than 100 youths might have been duped like this in the capital region alone.

The SP said that a police team posing them as job seekers lured the accused the man, Sanjay Das, to Banderdewa area, from where he was arrested. A case (No. 182 /18) under section 420 of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Naharlagun PS and further investigations launched.

Vardhan informed that so far, 18 persons have come forward as victims of this cheating racket. More arrests are likely in this case as search for accomplices is on, he added.
