‘Guru Diwas’ celebration concludes

PASIGHAT, Oct 7: The maiden three-day ‘Guru Diwas’ celebration, which showcased the folk dances, arts, music and sports of the indigenous people of the State, concluded at the Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang (CDPYK) Gangging complex here this evening with a cultural extravaganza.

Addressing a large gathering during the cultural evening as the chief guest, Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang said that Donyi-Poloism and other indigenous faiths have been practiced since time immemorial, adding that our ancient faith and belief system, culture and heritage have to be preserved and promoted for posterity.

The Minister also paid his tribute to ‘Golgi Bote’ Talom Rukbo, the father of Donyi-Polo movement, and recalled his immense contribution for the promotion and preservation of indigenous faiths. He also stressed on promoting brotherhood and amity among all sections of people.

Asking people to remain connected to their cultural roots, he further stressed on keeping alive our rich indigenous festivals, folk arts like dances, music, crafts etc and to pass them on to the succeeding generations.

The guest of honour Tamiyo Tatak, DC East Siang urged the young research scholars to contribute in developing a common script of the tribal groups of the State. He also urged all to strive together to strengthen and promote our cultural heritage and values.

He lauded all the participants including artistes, youth, children and representatives from various parts of the State for making the event successful one. He added such events also serve as platform for interactions and cultural exchanges. Chief advisor of CDPYK Kaling Borang also spoke on the occasion.

The three-day Lambona Longa (Guru Diwas) function was jointly organized by the Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) and CDPYK, Pasighat.

Among others, IFCSAP president Tajom Tasung and general secretary Bai Taba, noted artist Delong Padung, former IFCSAP general secretary Gichik Taja, social workers, office bearers of IFCSAP, prayer centre leaders, ACLS artistes, and sculptors who sculpted Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo’s statue were felicitated by the chief guest.
