39th foundation day celebration of APWWS concludes

NAHARLAGUN, Oct 10: A two-day 39th foundation day celebration of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) concluded at the Dree Ground, Papu Nallah here today on a colourful note.

In his address, Women & Child Development Minister Nabam Rebia said that APWWS has come a long way since its inception when it had only a few prominent women as its members. “The APWWS has grown and now has its branches in every district working for the rights and development of the state’s womenfolk. The state government is dedicated towards ensuring all possible support to the APWWS,” he said.

Rebia assured that the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women, which is presently defunct, will be revived soon.

While lauding the APWWS for its various welfare efforts concerning state’s women and children, Capital Complex deputy commissioner Prince Dhawan said that the APWWS members have extended their support to the district administration on numerous occasions which has helped it ensure better facilities for the womenfolk.

He informed that the APWWS had earlier helped in performing the audit of toilets in various govt sec and hr sec schools of Capital Complex, which led the administration to repair most of it. The DC also disclosed that the state govt has sanctioned a fund of Rs 100 lakh for installing proper light posts at various places based on the APWWS’s requests for safety of women in Capital Complex.  “We hope to start the said project from January next year,” he added.

Further, the DC appealed the APWWS to cooperate with the state govt for proper implementation of Chief Minister Samagra Shiksa Scheme in various schools of the state by conducting regular interactive sessions with the teaching faculty and students.

APWWS (CEC) vice president Bengia Dipti Tadar and chief advisor Jarjum Ete highlighted various contributions of the Society since its inception in 1979 and recalled the contributions of state’s leaders towards the welfare of the state’s womenfolk.

Ete appealed the Minister to take up the matter of reservation for women in PRI election with the state govt soon.

During the two-day celebration, information regarding marriage registration and free legal services were also imparted to around 255 delegates from various districts.
