Arunachal bags three National Poshan Awards

ITANAGAR, Oct 10: Three frontline functionaries from Arunachal Pradesh have bagged National Poshan Awards in recognition of their exemplary performances in implementation of ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ (National Nutrition Month).

The month of September was celebrated across the length and breadth of the country as ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ under ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’, the National Nutrition Mission which aimed to reduce the level of stunting, under-nutrition, anemia and low birth weight in children and sensitize countrymen regarding the importance of holistic nutrition.

The awards were presented by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt of India which was the nodal agency for the implementation of ‘Poshan Maah’.

Two Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) – Mailong Taku Moyong from Mebo ICDS Project in East Siang and Shilakani Namshum from Lekang ICDS Project, Namsai district got the ‘block level leadership award’ and the Supervisor under Tezu (Lohit) ICDS Project Nuri Elapra received ‘individual excellence field functionary award’ in a ceremony held at New Delhi today.

51-year-old Mailong Taku Moyong, CDPO since 1997, put in extra efforts in the campaign for the Poshan Abhiyaan in her block and in the district of East Siang. She organised recipe competition among village women to stress on awareness on nutrition. She had been instrumental in crafting song for Poshan Abhiyaan in Adi language which was recorded and played in all the events during Poshan Maah celebration. She was also part of Radio talk in Hindi and local language aired through All India Radio Pasighat, giving awareness on nutrition.

CDPO Shilakani Namshum, 53, showed exemplary leadership for the celebration of Rashtriya Poshan Maah organizing various programs on nutrition and health along with various Govt departments. She organised one of the biggest Poshan Melas in the state wherein traditional local foods were displayed by village women. She guided children of Anganwadi centers making skits and plays using vegetable characters and explaining the source of vitamins for healthy body.

Nuri Elapra, Supervisor under Tezu ICDS Project, Lohit district had ensured coverage of all Anganwadi centres and organised 19 activities along with line departments. She was appreciated for innovative use of technology, like using portable Bluetooth speakers to play messages on nutrition. Audio/video was played from mobile phones during home visits to counsel pregnant and lactating women.

For the Poshan Awards, the whole country was divided into four groups. The state of Arunachal Pradesh was under Group 2 along with Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, the States and UTs were asked to send nominations for various categories of awards like Field functionary awards for Anganwadi Worker, ASHA, ANM, and Supervisors under ICDS, Village Convergence award, Leadership award for block and district officers, State level awards for Best Social Media Campaign, Maximum reach, best innovative use of non-conventional methods.
