Foothills can lead the future of Arunachal economy to ‘greater height’: Khandu

PASIGHAT, Oct 11: Chief Minister Pema Khandu while reiterating the importance of good network of surface, air and rail connectivity in the State for tapping its potentials in various sectors to boost economic activities said that its foothill belt can lead the future of Arunachal economy to a “greater height”.

Stating that the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken lots of initiative in strengthening connectivity in the North East Region including Arunachal, Khandu said that the state is set to witness lots of economic activities with good connectivity and completion of vital infrastructure projects.

Inaugurating a conference hall constructed under SIDF at Mebo ADC headquarters in presence of Dy CM Chowna Mein, Advisor to CM & MLA Lombo Tayeng, Environment & Forests Minister Nabam Rebia, State BJP president Tapir Gao, MLAs Tapuk Taku and Gabriel D Wangsu, Commissioner PWD Belatee Pertin, DC Tamiyo Tatak, SP Prashant Gautam and GBs among others, the CM said such high quality works with judicious utilization of fund should be emulated, while lauding the local MLA and team of engineers of executing agency PWD.

He appreciated the local MLA for his developmental initiatives, while also appreciating the good link road connectivity in his constituency.

He informed that to supplement the Central Government initiative under the UDAAN project to provide affordable air connectivity for the general public and boost inflow of tourists the GoAP has also launched the CM Air Connectivity Scheme to connect other uncovered ALGs of Arunachal Pradesh like Aalo, Mechukha, Tuting, Walong etc.

The foundation stone for Greenfield Airport in State Capital Itanagar will be laid in December 2018, he added.

Referring to need for carrying out Railway connectivity works to connect Pasighat and Foothill areas, Khandu sought cooperation of general public, particularly landowners in such development initiative.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by GBs of Mebo on immediate measures to address the issue of “massive” erosion caused by Siang river threatening the existence of villages and agricultural land due to its turbidity and unusual waves and the resultant siltation of the river since the last two years, the CM assured that required funds will be sanctioned on priority adding that he has directed the DC to conduct survey with the executing agency within a day or two and submit DPR at the earliest so that flood protection works can be completed before the next monsoon season.

The State Govt has also been apprised by MLA Tayeng of the plight of farmers and the people due to the erosion caused by Siang River and the drought like situation. Relief measures to mitigate the farming community will be announced by the State Govt shortly after submission of detailed report for suitable relief measures by the Chief Secretary.

On long term measures to combat the erosion caused by Siang river, he said that the State Govt has been taking it up with the Central Government and added that an expert technical team from GoI will soon visit the area. He also appreciated the suggestion put forward for diversion measures of Siang river from Sigar area put forward by Group Captain (Retd) Mohanta Panging.  The Govt will take all possible steps to address the issues of erosion and flood, he assured.

He also attributed causes of such phenomena of nature due to global warming.

Stating that the ‘Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ in the villages and other places is to bring the benefits of various flagship programmes of the State Govt and Govt of India to the people and the youth, he said the Govt will conduct various outreach activities to reach out to the youth, rural people and general public of Arunachal Pradesh.

Dy CM, in his address, sought cooperation of people of the area and the state in various developmental efforts. We can take the state forward through a spirit of teamwork, he said.
