ITANAGAR, Jul 5: A team All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) led by its president Hawa Bagang and general secretary Tobom Dai had an interactive and coordination meeting with the department of Education here today.

The meeting was chaired by Likha Teji, Under Secretary Education and attended by DSE, DEE, Dy SPD, representatives from Directorate of Education and officials of the department among others.

The meeting was aimed at to know firsthand the major challenges and understand the problems faced by the department.

The representative from K-yan Company also presented the ABC’s of smart class.

The Directors from various departments highlighted the facts and figures regarding education scenario in the state and recent CBSE results.

AAPSU president, in his speech, stressed that the department should understand that for quality education, first a teacher should be given a quality space and respectable environment.

He emphasized that all teachers should be given the basic facilities of accommodation, economic and logistic benefits in order to let them perform their duty in the ‘best’ way.

The govt should make sure that the teachers are given regular salary and other benefits, he viewed.

AAPSU GS highlighted the Union’s 17-point charter of demands submitted to the state govt. He also stressed for regular payment of teachers salary, particularly to the SSA and RMSA teachers.

The Union opined for the creation of separate and independent commission for recruitment of teachers so that it can recruit “qualified” teachers. It also stressed on regular disbursement of stipend to the students, adequate supply of textbooks, re-introduction of retention policy for quality education and proper functioning of SCERT.

It was informed that the overriding challenge faced by Education department is the lack of manpower in both teaching and non-teaching sections.
