PASIGHAT, Jul 5: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), East Siang in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra East Siang, College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat today organized a day-long skill development training cum demonstration programme on low-cost solar fish drying method for farming community of Mebo block of the district.

The objective of the programme was to acquaint the farmers on hygienic methods of fish preservation. In the inaugural session, T Pertin, Deputy Director Agriculture (Training), Farmer’s Training Centre, East Siang welcomed the gathering and briefed about the purpose of organizing the programme.

Subject Matter Specialist, Fisheries, S M Hussain highlighted the need of balance diet and importance of integrated farming for reducing malnutrition, enhancing food security and income generation.

In the programme, hands-on training cum demonstration on methods of construction of low-cost solar dryer and process of fish drying was given to the progressive farmers. The low cost solar dryer can be constructed by utilizing locally available materials viz. bamboo, wood, white and black polythene sheet.

Altogether, 44 progressive farmers were trained about the procedure of fish preservation by using salting and sun drying method hygienically. The trainees were of the view that this small low-cost solar dryer would definitely help them for fish preservation and income generation too. They expressed gratitude to ATMA and KVK for demonstrating location specific easy to use technology for wider adoption at the village level.

At the end of the programme, four units of low cost solar dry have been distributed to four groups of farmers by the Deputy Director of Agriculture (Training) for benefit of the farmers of the block.
