ITANAGAR, Jul 16: Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) has conducted one-day orientation cum induction training for the members of Arunachal Pradesh Parents Association of Disabled Children and Arunachal Pradesh Paralympics Association at Itanagar on July 15.

Since the persons with disabilities either physically or mentally have been at the receiving end in various stratum of society in terms of enjoying their full rights and facilities as provided by the Govt, the APSLSA, keeping with the objectives to facilitate them with sound knowledge and give an access to justice through the Legal Services Authorities, organized the training programme for members of AP Parents Association of Disabled Children and  AP Paralympics Association by inducting them as Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs).

The programme was attended among others by APSLSA Member Secretary Budi Habung, State Coordinator SSA (Planning and Pedagogy) M B Singh, Advocate Jumgam Jini and Project Assistant, DOJ, Nani Modi.

Habung spoke on the roles and responsibilities of State Legal Services Authority; do and don’ts of PLV and their honorarium while in the later sessions, he again spoke on Lok Adalat, talk on civil and criminal justice system, FIR, arrest and bail matters, remand and provisions of maintenance; while MB Singh spoke on right of education for the disabled children, Nani Modi on child and women’s rights which included talks on POCSO Act, sexual harassment at work place, domestic violence  and Juvenile Justice Act, and Jumgam Jini spoke on human rights and disability laws.

During the programme, practical activities were conducted by Nani Modi on how a PLV should attend to when any legal problem arises. Further in order to have a better understanding of the activities of Legal Services Authorities, NALSA videos on activities carried out by the Legal Services Authorities were shown. The programme ended with a valedictory function wherein certificates were given by the Member Secretary to the participants.
