PASIGHAT, Jul 16: At a time when Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Management Kaling Moyong were conducting aerial survey of flood affected areas including Siang and Siku rivers in the district, a team comprising of East Siang Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kaling Dai, WRD EE Tamo Jamoh, Bogong-II Anchal Chairperson Oni Tamuk and public leader Oyin Moyong also visited the flood and erosion-hit sites near 21 Mile and Pasighat Reserve Forest on Friday.

While closely observing the massive erosion took place just downward 21 Mile burial ground and part of Pasighat Reserve Forest, ZPC Dai said entire portion of Pasighat town’s Gumin Nagar, Tulap area, Berung, Rani and Sika Tode-Bamin villages are under serious threat from the mighty Siang river. The river current is pushing toward right bank due to which massive erosion is taking place in the area where some of Hollok trees have also been washed away and some are still helping in preventing erosion. The ZPC and others said that these areas need proper flood control measures, while the WRD EE said that a proposal for its protection will be sent to the govt while erecting certain bunds along the major point.
