PASIGHAT, Jul 16: The Pasighat People’s Welfare Committee (PPWC) has called off its proposed East Siang district bandh on July 17 following the assurance given by Power Department to provide uninterrupted power supply to the district by rectifying the faults within 24 hours.

The decision to suspend the bandh call was taken after a crucial meeting involving the bandh calling committee and departmental officers was held under the chairmanship of East Siang Deputy Commission Tamiyo Tatak here Saturday.

At the meeting, the PPWC placed a four-point charter of demand before the Power Dept which included, dept should give assurance to restore power failure within 24 hours, formation of coordination committee and to arrange a bi-monthly meeting on power, enhancement of power supply from present 3 MW to 5 MW from Assam, etc.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering has come down heavily on the Power Dept for its alleged inability to maintain 132 KV line which was commissioned recently. While speaking to this correspondent, Ering said that the very purpose of 132 KV line was to avoid usual power disruption out of tree/bamboo falling over the wires of 33 KV line. The department needs to ensure regular power supply and take stern action against the officials and staff found negligent over such public utility service sectors, he added.
