ITANAGAR, Jul 17: Hundreds of Samaritans from all walks of life turned up and generously contributed cash or kind on first day of two-day donation camp, organized jointly by Arunachal Press Club, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and Arunachal Electronic Media Association at Akashdeep here today for the victims of Laptap village landslide.

At least 14 people were killed in Laptap village when their homes were swept away in the landslide triggered by incessant rains on July 11 last.

Joining the fund raising camp, Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan, APSTS General Manager Abu Tayeng and team of ‘United Charity’, an NGO, also contributed some amount towards the cause and extended best wishes to press fraternity for the noble gesture. The contributors were presented with badges as a mark of gratitude from APC, APUWJ and AEMA.

Day Two camp would be set up at Takar Complex, Naharlagun on Tuesday from 10 am to 5pm.

“Indeed, it was truly encouraging to see that the people from all walks of life turned up in such large numbers to donate for landslide victims. We anticipate same response at Takar Complex tomorrow,” said APUWJ president and coordinator of the fund-raising camp Amar Sangno.

NHPC provides relief to Laptap victims

The villagers of Laptap, particularly those who lost their 14 near and dear ones to a massive landslide on July 11 expressed their gratitude to the NHPC Ltd, a team of which led by senior manager (HR) Parvesh Kumar and deputy chief medical officer Dr Abu Taba provided relief materials to them, for standing by their side at the worst phase of their lives.

The NHPC team including environment officer Sunil Bhargav  arrived the village with the relief – rice (10 quintals), dal (5 quintals), sugar (2.5 quintals), tea leaves (25 kg), salt (1 quintal), mustard oil (48 litres) and mineral water (25 cartoons), which were received by Tana Tagi Tara on behalf of the bereaved families.

The NHPC team, BJP Mahila Morcha and student leaders with candles prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
