DRL scientist calls on Governor


ITANAGAR, Jan 12: Dr Soumya Chatterjee, a scientist from Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Tezpur, Assam called on Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan here today. Dr Chatterjee gave a PowerPoint presentation about the latest technologies developed by DRL in biotoilets and briefed about various types of biotoilets developed by DRL, DRDO suitable for various terrains, including high altitudes, hill areas and plain regions.
The Governor appreciated the scientific achievement of the DRDO and suggested construction of biotoilets in Arunachal Pradesh. He reiterated that such a proactive role of DRDO will promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national cleanliness campaign - ‘Swachh Bharat’ Abhiyan.
He emphasised on promoting biotoilets for maintaining the pristine environment of the State. He pointed out that without a proper toilet system, the sludge of toilets reaches the streams and rivers which results in water pollution and spread of diseases.
The Governor requested the DRL, DRDO to launch a pilot programme by installing some biotoilets in the extended complex near lower Birup Colony here, so that other citizens in the State can also adopt such innovative projects.
Rajiv Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha was also present in the meeting.
