ITANAGAR, Jan 13: Shakuntala D Gamlin, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has agreed to the proposal of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra to set up an Artificial Limb Center in the State.

The Union Secretary, who called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan here today, agreed to process immediately after the State Government gave 15 acres of land for it, said a communique from the Raj Bhavan.

During the meeting, the Governor also emphasised on creating an inclusive society which empowers differently abled people.

“It is the collective responsibility of all the members of the society to provide ample opportunities to the physically challenged persons to excel in life. They can do extremely well in all fields of life, provided a conducive and facilitative platform is provided to them to grow,” he asserted.

The Governor further stressed that the civil society and the State and Central Governments must take responsibility to enhance accessibility of the ‘Divyangjan’ to greater prospects so that they can become proud partners in the developmental processes.

The visiting Secretary invited the Governor to participate in the ensuing ‘Divya Kala Shakti’ programme, which the latter accepted with pleasure.

The Secretary was accompanied by Chairman & Managing Director, ALIMCO, Dharam Raj Sarin, DEPwD Director K V S Rao, Rehabilitation Council of India’s Member Secretary Dr Subogh Kumar and Under Secretary, DEPwD, D K Panda.
