Training on Oyster mushroom cultivation held at Sika Bamin

PASIGHAT, Jan 22: A one-day training programme on “Oyster Mushroom Cultivation” was conducted by All India Coordinated Research Project on Mushroom, College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat for the progressive farmers & self-help group (SHG) members at Sika Bamin village of East Siang district on Thursday.

During the programme, Dr RC Shakywar, Principal Investigator of the Project, shared his experience on the importance and identification of mushrooms and also the role of extension functionaries for technology transfer amongst farmers. He also spoke on the package of practice of oyster mushroom cultivation, nutritional and medicinal properties of mushroom and food habit in the region during COVID-19 pandemic. As per the available data, the production of mushroom in 2016 was 30 tons. But now with full response of mushroom growers its production reached 60 tons, he said.

Altogether 55 progressive farmers, mostly females, participated in the programme, sponsored by ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan (Himachal Pradesh).
