ITANAGAR, Jan 22: Amid the growing clamour from various quarters for clarification from the State Government as well as the Centre over reports of China building a village in the 'disputed' Indian territory in Upper Subansiri district, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday claimed the said area was captured by China in 1959 when the Congress was in power.

“This incursion has not taken place now. Since 1959 it has been captured by China. It happened during Congress rule,” Mein told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

Asked about the same, State Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Mama Natung, who was also present, seconded the Dy CM and said “this matter is of 1959”.

“We are ready to sacrifice our life for our motherland. We won’t give up even a single inch of land from Arunachal,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), the state's only regional party, demanded to resolve the same without compromising even a single inch of land.

“Government of India must come out with a clear statement and stand on the issue and resolve the crisis peacefully without compromising even a single inch of land.

With such a development the State government also has to actively coordinate with the people living along the border regions in the state," the party said in a statement here.

Considering such a development the Government of India must extend its full support towards the full development of the border areas in terms of rapid infrastructural development, suggested the regional outfit.

The Arunachal Indigenous Students’ Union (AISU), while condemning the reported Chinese incursion and construction of a village with over 100 houses in Upper Subansiri district, today demanded a clarification from the State Government on the matter.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the AISU said, “If this is really a matter of fact then it is a grave concern for our state and national security, if wrong then kindly unearth the fact and put forth in public domain to ease our people or else people might be running through some panic like situation and (feel) insecure”.

It also requested the CM to seek the Centre’s intervention into the matter, besides pitching for creating state’s own military, ‘Arunachal Regiment’, in line with Assam Regiment to safeguard the country’s border in Arunachal Pradesh.
