5-day workshop for forest personnel commences at SCCZ


ZIRO, Feb 22: A five-day workshop on ‘Application of GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS Technology in Forest Resource Management’ began at Saint Claret College, Ziro (SCCZ) here today.
The workshop is being organized by the department of Geography, SCCZ in collaboration with the department of Environment & Forests, GoAP in which Dr Kunal Kumar Das, senior scientist, IIRS, Dehradun, and faculty of dept of Geography, SCCZ will be the resource persons.
The inaugural session began with a plantation drive at the SCCZ campus.
Abhinav Kumar, DFO, Hapoli Forest Division was the chief guest.
Phyllostachys edulis ‘Moso’ bamboo was planted in an area of 600 sqmtrs. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the College in providing quality education, and extending it to working professionals.
SCCZ Principal Fr Allwyn Mendoz exhorted the participants to make the best use of the resources available in order to upgrade their skills in the use of technology. The five-day residential workshop which aims at giving hands on training to the frontline personnel of the Forest department will feature sessions both in theory and practical of GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS Technology, and is being attended by personnel from the Forest Divisions of Aalo, Pasighat, Kamlang, Roing, Chimpu and Hapoli.
The GIS RS lab of the College will facilitate the lab sessions of the workshop.
