RUKSIN, Apr 7: A competition to choose Ruksin sub-division’s cleanest village got underway here on Tuesday the top three of which shall be declared on February 20 next year.

This was announced during a coordination meeting held yesterday at the Multipurpose Town Club here with ADC Ruksin T Jonnom in the chair.

The cleanest village (the winner) will be awarded a prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the second ranked village (first runner-up) will get Rs 70,000 and the third placed village (second runner-up) will take home a purse of Rs 40,000.  

Informing about the basic objective of the meeting, the ADC called for active participation of all Panchayat leaders, HGBs/GBs, village secretaries, Self Help Groups and the public of Ruksin sub-division to make the venture a grand success.

T Padun, JE (PHED, Ruksin) briefed the house regarding the parameters through which the winners of the competition would be decided.

The winners of the competition shall be decided on the basis of total marks obtained by each village. The marks will be given against each parameter by the members of the executive committee during their tri-monthly inspection.

The JE stated that the parameters of the competition are:

Village should be Open Defecation free.

Proper waste water management system should be practiced, as stagnant water is the breeding place for mosquitoes and flies which is the root cause for various diseases, and hence must be discouraged.

Proper system for disposal of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste should be maintained.

Straying of domesticated animals should not be allowed. In this regard, the villagers shall be encouraged to confine their the domesticated animals such as cows, goats and pigs in shed and sty which are located within the premises of their own residences or fields – action should be initiated by ZPMs/GPCs/HGBs/GBs/village secretaries.

Any other measures needed for beautification of the village should be taken up.

Further, the meeting decided that the attention of all stakeholders will be drawn on the cleanliness of road alongside Poba reserve forest and in this connection, the RFO, Ruksin was entrusted upon the task to work out a proper system for cleanliness of the area.
