Legendary Nocte singer, Khomphua Sumnyan passes away


KHONSA, May 3: Most admired and legendary Nocte singer of Huakan village – Khomphua Sumnyan, son of late Manru Sumnyan, passed away last evening after prolonged illness.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, two granddaughters, two grandsons and two daughters-in-law.
Chief of Huakan Kamwang Lowang declared May 3 a holiday within Huakan village to enable people pay homage to the departed soul.
Saddened at the demise of the Khappa Nocte singing legend, the chief of Huakan said that it is an irreparable loss and the end of an era for the entire people of Huakan village in particular and the Nocte community as a whole.
In her condolence message, Khonsa West MLA Chakat Aboh said that late Khomphua Sumnyan was a custodian of Nocte Khappa folk song and fatherly figure for the people of the entire Dadam area. “His untimely death has come as a shock to the entire people of Dadam area, which is an irreparable loss,” she added.
Further, the MLA conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
The last rites of late Khomphua Sumnyan will be performed at Huakan village on Tuesday. (DIPRO)
