Man sentenced to 20 years RI for sexual assault on minor girl

AALO, May 12: A special POCSO (Special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court on May 6 sentenced a convict to 20 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 3000 for the sexual assault on a six-year-old girl.

The court convicted the accused, identified as Bombe alias Bombay Riba, 25, under sections 6 of POCSO Act and 363/376(3) of the IPC after completing the trial of the case.

In case of default, the convict shall be imprisoned for one more year. The accused has also been convicted and sentenced to undergo three years of imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. On evasion, he shall further be imprisoned for six months.

The incident dates back to April 30, 2020 when the father of the victim had lodged a written FIR to the effect that in the evening of the same day at around 1600 hrs that his minor daughter (victim) was “forcefully kidnapped” from his home by the accused and after taking the victim to the nearby river, he raped her.

On receipt of the FIR, the OC of PS, Basar registered an instant case vide Basar PS case No 08/20 u/s 363/376 IPC R/w Sec 4 of POCSO Act, 2012 and investigation was launched.

During the investigation, it was found that the accused and minor victim are neighbours of the same village and thus knew each other well from the very beginning.

On the day of the incident, while the minor victim was playing at the premises of her house with her siblings and friends all of a sudden the accused arrived there and took her (victim) to the nearby river and raped her after disrobing and shutting her mouth.

Meanwhile, the court has referred to the District Legal Services Authority, Khonsa, for providing adequate compensation for rehabilitation of the victim under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011. (DIPRO)
