State varsities, colleges set to adopt NCC as elective course

ITANAGAR, Jun 9: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) will no longer remain an extra-curricular activity and will be adopted as General Elective Credit Course under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

The universities and colleges of Arunachal Pradesh are all set to adopt NCC as an elective course in their under-graduate (UG) courses.

This has come after the University Grants Commission (UGC), in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, had issued guidelines to remove the hard separation between extra-curricular, co-curricular and curricular activities in educational institutes.

This would allow harnessing the full potential of NCC’s capacity in youth development and enlarging the student base taking up the training. The cadets would also get benefitted by accumulating credit points at the end of each semester, which would get added to their overall academic performance.

The Department of Education, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh has already issued necessary instructions to all stakeholders in this regard and the Universities and colleges are in the process of modifying their academic curriculum for inclusion of NCC as a credit based elective subject, stated a press release here today.
