RGUTA extends helping hands to families of MCZ

RONO HILLS, Jun 17: The Rajiv Gandhi University Teachers’ Association (RGUTA) has launched a donation drive for providing ‘relief’ to 110 labour class families residing in the RGU micro containment zone (MCZ) and has collected over Rs 1.60 lakh during the week-long drive led by its former president Prof Jumyir Basar and the incumbent Dr Daniel Mize.

The Labour Colony located around F-Sector was declared as MCZ by the State administration when 30 COVID-19 cases were detected through mass RAT tests in the campus. It has been reported that currently, there are around 40 COVID-19 positive cases in the RGU campus.

Food stuffs including rice, egg, etc and cleanliness materials amounting to around Rs one lakh were today distributed amongst the families of the MCZ by RGUTA members with the help of RGU COVID-19 Task Force led by Prof Sumpam Thangjang.

Over Rs 60,000 generated through this donation drive has been kept aside for providing relief to such economically weaker families residing in RGU campus in case COVID-19 cases emerge further in the campus, stated a RGUTA release here.
