MALIGAON, Jul 15: Anshul Gupta, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway on Wednesday held a review meeting with all the Divisional Railway Managers, senior officials from NFR headquarters and representatives of CORE and RVNL through video conferencing.
During the meeting, detailed discussion was held on various aspects related to ongoing railway electrification works in NFR areas and initiatives taken for timely completion of the work.
Continuing with the work of railway electrification, N F Railway successfully completed electrification of 334 route km in various sections between Raninagar Jalpaiguri - Guwahati in 2020-21. Balance works of this section are in various stages of execution and it is expected to be completed by this year. Railway electrification works between Srirampur Assam – New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya – Guwahati sections are in advanced stage and electric loco trial is expected to be conducted by August this year.
Railway electrification work in New Bongaigaon – Jogigopa is completed and CRS inspection of the section is awaited. Similarly, Kolaigram – Gumanihat (2nd line) section is targeted to be completed by August, 2021; New Jalpaiguri – Siliguri and New Guwahati – Digaru – Jagiroad sections by September this year. Moreover, railway electrification works between Jogighopa – Dudhnoi, Dudhnoi – Kamakhya, Jagiroad – Hojai, Chaparmukh – Silghat Town and Senchoa – Mairabari are in progress and expected to complete by December, 2021. Works for railway electrification in Hojai – Lumding and Katihar – Purnia sections have also commenced and are in various stages of execution which are expected to be completed by March, 2022.
Recently, CRS sanction has been accorded for one of the busiest sections of NFR, the Jalpaiguri Road – Y-leg section on 30th June, 2021 and Betgara - Kolaigram section on 1st July, 2021 for the second line along with doubling. Earlier, during the month of March, 2021, CRS inspection for the portions New Coochbehar – Srirampur (Assam), Bongaigaon – Rangiya and Rangiya – Kamakhya were also conducted.
With this, railways have come closer to fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Northeast regions of running trains with electric traction to and fro from Guwahati, the gateway to the Northeast. Train operations with electric traction will provide seamless railway connectivity of Northeastern states with the rest of India and it will be a boon for environment conservation.
