Arunachal doctor bags prestigious international award

ITANAGAR, Aug 26: A doctor from Arunachal Pradesh has bagged a prestigious international award in recognition of her ‘Leadership & Excellence’.

Dr Amrita Sarkar, Assistant Professor & Epidemiologist, Department of Community Medicine, Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun has been awarded for serving the community by way of leadership & excellence, in a recent international award ceremony held virtually, organized jointly by the VB Foundation and the KGNHSS Foundation.

Dr Amrita Sarkar, former Registrar of CMC (Vellore), is the only person to have been nominated and won the award from the State of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a matter of great honour & achievement for TRIHMS and the entire State, said a release. Dr Amrita, who was also associated with University of Copenhagen, Denmark as teaching assistant, has been deeply involved in various charitable and social activities for the uplift of health, education and environment fields for more than 12 years now, along with her family.

Born to Prof Asit Kr Sarkar & Sonia Sarkar and spouse of Dr Debjit Roy, Psychiatrist, Niba hospital, Dr Amrita Sarkar is also the editor of the recently unveiled book of international involvement called ‘Breastfeeding: The Science & Art of Lactation’.

The event was organized to felicitate individuals and organizations from all over the world for their exceptional contributions towards the achievement of Sustainable Development in various sectors through their noble and noteworthy service during their lifetime and even during the pandemic.

The other states from the North East to receive this prestigious award were the Christo Naga’s Club from Nagaland, Sadam Hanjabam, Ya-All (NGO) from Manipur, Suren Mohra, Field Facilitator, State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Sikkim and Trapa Choudhury, a Child Ambassador of SDG from Guwahati, Assam.
