Man accused of raping minor girl surrenders

ITANAGAR, Sep 14: The accused in the minor girl’s rape incident at Sikarijo village in Upper Subansiri district has reportedly surrendered before the police on Tuesday. He was on the run after committing the crime last week.
The accused Pakbin Sikom (30), alleged of raping his minor sister-in-law on September 8 evening, was taken into custody at 7.30 pm this evening after he had surrendered, Dy SP (Daporijo) T Bage informed.
“He will be produced before the designated court under POCSO Act tomorrow,” the Dy SP said.

Following the shocking incident, various organizations, including the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR), had demanded immediate arrest of the absconding accused person.
The Commission had also urged the State Govt to provide necessary compensation to the victim under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011.
The Daporijo Police had registered a case under IPC Section 376(2)(j) read with Sec 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.
