PLA ‘abducts’ Arunachalee youth

ITANAGAR, Jan 19: An Arunachalee youth has been allegedly abducted by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Lungta Jor area inside Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district on Tuesday and his whereabouts is not known yet, MP Tapir Gao claimed on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when two youths from Zido village, opposite Tuting town – 17-year-old Miram Taron and Johny Yaying, 27, had reportedly gone there for hunting. However, one of them, Johny Yaying, escaped from the clutches of the PLA and reported to the authorities, Gao told UNI.

Gao, who represents Arunachal East parliamentary constituency under which the place of occurrence falls, requested the Government of India to take initiative for his early release.

“I have briefed about it to Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik and urged to look into it and ensure his early release,” he said.

Gao also said that he has apprised the matter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and the district administration.

The MP also said that the incident site is the one where China had built 3-4 kms road inside India in 2018.

Meanwhile, former Union Minister and Congress MLA Ninong Ering demanded the Centre to ensure early release of the boy and also take steps to check Chinese intrusion in the frontier state.

“MEA, Home Ministry should help in safe return of the boy. Chinese intrusion in our land must be checked,” he tweeted.

In September 2020, the Chinese PLA had handed over five youths from the frontier state which they claimed were found by their side.
