939 police medals announced on RDay eve

New Delhi, Jan 25: The government on Tuesday announced medals to 939 police personnel on the occasion of Republic Day including 189 medals for gallantry, 88 President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 662 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
"Out of the 189 Police Medals for gallantry, 134 personnel have been awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir region, 47 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism infested areas and 1 person for gallant action in the North East," the Home Ministry said.
The gallantry award winners include 115 from Jammu and Kashmir Police, 30 from the Central Reserve Police Force, 3 from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, 2 from the Border Security Force, 3 from Sashastra Seema Bal, 10 from Chhattisgarh Police, 9 from Odisha Police and 7 from Maharashtra Police.
The remaining are from other states and Union Territories.
There is no President's Police Medal for Gallantry, the highest police gallantry medal, this year.
Jammu and Kashmir has begged 115 police medals for gallantry, 2 President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 15 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
Uttar Pradesh has won 1 Police Medal for Gallantry, 5 President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 73 Medals for Meritorious Service.
Prashant Kumar, the Additional Director General (Law and Order) in Uttar Pradesh, has been awarded the prestigious gallantry medal.
ITBP has won 18 medals -- 3 Police Medal for Gallantry, 3 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 12 Police Medal For Meritorious Service.
CRPF has begged 30 Police Medals for Gallantry, 5 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 57 Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
BSF has got 2 Police Medals for Gallantry, 5 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 46 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.
CBI has received 6 President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 23 Police Medals for Meritorious Service. (UNI)
