Cycle rally marks Mission ‘Zero-Drug Ziro’ launch

ZIRO, Jan 27: The Mission ‘Zero-Drug Ziro’, was launched by the TSD (the apex Council of the Apatanis) through a ‘symbolic’ cycle rally from Govt Hr Sec School ground to Padi Yubey Outdoor stadium, Hapoli near here yesterday.

Addressing the gathering, Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner appreciated the TSD for launching such a vital mission. She stressed that drugs are creeping into our society destroying the lives of youth and destabilizing the harmony of society. Therefore, such an initiative was much needed.  She, however, said that Ganja/Canabis cultivation has reduced immensely within Ziro valley. But society at large needs to collaborate and fight the menace from the core. Vast awareness campaign also needs to be carried out for public awareness.

Taku Chatung, general secretary TSD informed the gathering that the programme was a symbolic inauguration for a long drawn battle which requires not only public support but a comprehensive and holistic approach to nip it in the bud. Further he appealed to the public, civil societies and NGOs to support and cooperate to fight against this menace.

AWAZ and AYA presidents along with GS, ASU also pledged to fight against the drug menace.

The cycle rally terminated with participation of members in the hoisting of national flag by the DC.
