6 Dialysis Units inaugurated on R-Day

ITANAGAR, Jan 27: Coinciding with the 73rd Republic Day celebrations, atleast six Dialysis Units were inaugurated on Wednesday at Aalo, Ziro, Seppa, Yingkiong, Tezu and Khonsa under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) under National Health Mission.

With this, the total number of dialysis units in the state rose to 10. Such facilities are already operating at Naharlagun, Pasighat, Tawang and Namsai, said a tweet from the Directorate of Health Services.

“Cases of kidney failure needing renal transplantation & dialysis are increasing in the state. The GoI has initiated PM National Dialysis Programme to provide free dialysis services to patients. Happy to have inaugurated the Dialysis Unit at Gyati Takka General Hospital, Ziro today,” Agriculture Minister Tage Taki tweeted on Wednesday.

DIPROs add: Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang inaugurated a two-bedded Dialysis Unit at the District Hospital, Yingkiong in the presence of Upper Siang DC Shashvat Saurabh, ZPC Lumgeng Litin, DMO Dr Moli Riba, HoDs and public leaders. The DMO explained the term of reference and scope for usage of the Dialysis Unit. After the inaugural function, the Minister inspected the ongoing works in the hospital.

At Ziro, terming the new facility as ‘a blessing’ for the people of Lower Subansiri and its nearby districts, Minister Taki said most families often have to undertake long distance frequent trips to access dialysis services, incurring heavy expenditures. “This Dialysis center is a landmark in end stage renal disease care and will relieve the poor patients of the financial burden.”

Informing that dialysis will be done free of cost, DMO Dr Tage Kanno said, “The dialysis center will be run on PPP mode. The expertise of private companies already in the field of renal care will be utilised. E-Sanjeevani Pvt Ltd, a Kolkata-based company will be collaborating with the District Hospital for the technical supervision and assistance.”

Lower Subansiri DC Somcha Lowang also spoke and appreciated the efforts of the DMO and his team for face-lifting the hospital and equipping it with all the modern medical technologies. Among others, SP Harsh Indora, HoDs, ZPMs and doctors attended the program.

Aalo East MLA cum Advisor (Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs) Kento Jini accompanied by West Siang DC, ZPC and others inaugurated the Dialysis Units at General Hospital, Aalo. Speaking on the occasion, the lawmaker said from now on, the needy people with kidney problems can avail the opportunity without going outside even for minor treatment.

DMO Dr Dubom Bagra disclosed that so many people with kidney problems are taking dialysis in other hospitals due to the absence of such a facility here. Only 15 to 20 people can be covered by the three units and technicians have also arrived and the unit will be made functional in a day. The DMO sought two to three more units to cater all the needs of the needy people of the district.

Tirap DC Taro Mize inaugurated the Dialysis Unit under PMNDP (NHM) at General Hospital, Khonsa in presence of ZPC Chathong Lowang, SP Kardak Riba, DMO Dr N Lowang, DRCHO Dr Nidak Angu, MS Dr K Socia and others.
