Pobdi Sec School facelifted on self help basis

AALO, Feb 4: The Pobdi Secondary School that caters academic needs of Paktu Ete Bango consisting of Bene, Wak, Kugi Pomse, Kugi Pomte, Paya and Gune Baane villages, has been renovated and given the much needed facelift - courtesy the noble deed of a group of good Samaritans.

The entire SPT school building was in a very poor shape as it has outlived its utility. The facelifting of the entire school building could be possible when the salaried members of the Pobdi-headquartered Paktu Ete Bango Welfare Society decided to contribute their one-day salary for the massive renovation work of the school on self help basis at least for functioning of the school, leaving the major works like construction of boys and girls' hostels to be taken up by the Govt.

This school, which made a humble beginning with a thatched house in 1961 and was upgraded to primary level in 1967 and to secondary school in 2010, withstood tests of time to cater educational needs to produce luminaries of the district and the state as a whole.

The school has an area of 51599 sq mtr of land donated by 10 noble souls - late Tumto Ete, late Rakken Ete, late Mishor Ete, late Jamar Ete, late Imar Ete, late Toli Ete, late Nyamar Ete, late Mege Ete, late Yomkir Ete and Nyige Ete.

PEBGEWS general secretary Tumto Ete, who himself is an alumnus of the school, said it is just a societal effort to contribute back to the school that was instrumental in shaping the 'destinies' of people of the area and "we cannot be a mute spectators to parents and guardians who used to give their manual works to construct boys hostel and repairing works of school on self help basis in the past".
