ITANAGAR, Jun 22: In a first for the North East region, Sonam Zomba of Arunachal Pradesh clinched a gold medal in the Mixed martial arts (MMA), hosted by the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation in New Delhi from June 16 to 19.
She bagged the gold in the female strawweight category.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has hailed Sonam for her achievement. Taking to his twitter handle, Khandu wrote: “Congratulations to Sonam Zomba on winning Gold at the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation. It's a proud moment for #ArunachalPradesh as she is the first athlete from North-East India to win gold medal in female strawweight category. Best wishes”
