Training cum orientation program on ‘basics of disaster management…’ held

LONGDING, Aug 5: As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav, the Disaster Management department, Longding today conducted a one day training cum orientation program on ‘basics of disaster management, medical first aids to help injured affected by disaster and fire safety’ for village chiefs, Panchayat leaders, HGB/GBs, Church leaders, NGOs etc of Longding and Pumao circles, held at the multipurpose community hall here.

Nyatum Doke, DIPRO Longding spoke on landslides and its preventive measures and cautioned people from taking up unsustainable earth cutting. He requested people to stay ‘aware and alert’ to prevent disaster.

Dr Hannah Lukham detailed the first aids in relation to various disasters like landslide, fire, earthquake, flood etc.

On the occasion, Lego distributed raincoats and first aid kits to the participants. Leaflets and pamphlets on different types of disasters like fire, earthquake, flood, landslide etc were too distributed among the participants.

Lego, while speaking to the participants, told them to be very careful about fire mishaps. He said: “Fire is basically a man-made disaster, which has a huge impact on the life and property of an individual.”

He also alerted people saying “we should be careful about faulty wiring and should not ignore even a small spark if seen in the electrical wires."

Longding DDMO V Mitte also spoke on the occasion.

Later Fire & Emergency Service department personnel of Longding district under the leadership of Ibom Gamkak, ASI demonstrated on how to use fire extinguishers and to douse gas cylinders fire.

The program was attended by resource persons from Health and Fire and Emergency Service departments, PRI members, GBs and general public.
