ITANAGAR, Aug 8: The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) fraternity led by Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha on Monday condoled the sudden demise of Prof Tamo Mibang, former Vice Chancellor of the University at his Mirbuk (Pasighat) residence in East Siang district on Saturday last.
In a condolence meeting at the RGU campus attended by all the deans of faculties, directors/ heads of the departments/institutes, coordinators, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
On Sunday, the university team consisting of VC, Pro-VC, Registrar, Deans, senior professors, teachers, statutory officers and others took part in his last rites at Pasighat.
“Prof Mibang had served the University in various capacities and was one of the founding pillars of Research in the Tribal culture of Arunachal Pradesh. A renowned name in tribal studies, the ‘Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies’ in Rajiv Gandhi University is the result of his incessant efforts towards the advancement of research in social and anthropological aspects. His contribution to the institution, the society and the nation at large has been immense.
“The dedication of Prof Mibang in the field of academics in Arunachal Pradesh and the University family has found for him a glorious seat among the most memorable persons. The owner of a simple and soft personality, his demise has created a vacuum in the world of academia and the society that cannot be fulfilled in any form. His contribution to Rajiv Gandhi University and the state of Arunachal Pradesh will always shine gloriously and will be a beacon light in inspiring others towards dedicating themselves to the service of the society and the nation,” read a condolence message from Prof Kushwaha.
