Misra calls for preservation of traditional loin loom weaving

ITANAGAR, Oct 6: The State Governor's better half Neelam Misra called upon the people to preserve and promote the traditional loin loom weaving of the North Eastern region.

While stating that the rich tradition of loin loom weaving is prevalent 'only' in NE region now, she said, "We must put in concerted effort in its preservation and encourage local weavers to carry it forward."

She was speaking during the screening of the documentary ‘Celebrating loin loom weaving through Loin Loom weaving of Arunachal Pradesh’ at Assam Rifles Headquarters, Laikor near Shillong on Thursday.

While noting that loin loom weaving facilitates women empowerment and thereby guarantees socio-economic development of the people, Misra said the loin loom weaving tradition will contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ s vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.

She stressed that the products of local weavers of the NE region must go from ‘Local to Global’ and must be the fashion statement of the region.

A large number of ladies, led by Pushpa Nair, wife of Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen PC Nair and president, Assam Rifles Wives’ Welfare Association attended the event.
