Army officer killed in Tawang chopper crash paid obeisance with full military honours

ITANAGAR, Oct 6: The mortal remains of Lt Col Saurabh Yadav of Army Aviation, who lost his life in the line of duty in a forward area near Tawang on Wednesday, were flown to the national capital on Thursday after being paid obeisance with full military honours, a defence spokesman said.

"Obeisance was paid with full military honours at Tawang to the mortal remains of Lt Col Saurabh Yadav of Army Aviation, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty on October 5 in a forward area. 

Wreath was laid on behalf of a grateful nation for the untiring service to the nation by the officer. The mortal remains have been dispatched to Delhi in a special military plane," Tezpur-based Defence PRO Lt Col AS Walia said.

An Army aviation Cheetah helicopter with two pilots on board which was flying in the forward area near Tawang has crashed on Wednesday while on a routine sortie.

Though both the pilots were evacuated to the nearest Military Hospital, one of them who was critically injured succumbed to the injuries during treatment, Walia had said.

The Defence PRO, meanwhile, said that the other injured pilot in the incident was air evacuated to 151 Base Hospital, Guwahati, wherein he is being treated by the best medical staff. 

"The Officer is out of critical danger and is recovering well," he informed.
