Seven NEOG 2022 medallists felicitated by DSYA

KHONSA, Nov 23: All the medal winners from the recently concluded North East Olympic Games 2022 of Tirap district were felicitated by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at Kamlesh Joshi conference hall here today.

The players from Tirap district, representing Arunachal Pradesh at the 2nd North East Olympic Games held at Shillong, Meghalaya from 10th to 16th November last, clinched 7 medals including 5 gold and 1 each of silver & bronze.

The gold medallists are James L Wanglat – Golf, Posen Kongkang – Weightlifting, Komdon Boi – Judo, and Radha Bangsia and Khinsen Wangsu – both Taekwondo.

Also, Khomdan Wanghop won silver in Judo and Goma Chetry secured bronze in Taekwondo.

All the medallists were given away cash award by Tirap Deputy Commissioner Taro Mize and the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs.

Addressing the gathering, the DC Tirap exhorted the players to stay away from harmful activities like drugs, alcohol, opium etc. He said that the players should work harder to represent the State at national and international level too.

He further said that the District Administration is ready to support those who excel in sports and bring laurels to the district in particular and state and nation as a whole.

Citing James L Wanglat as an example, Tirap DSO Noah Mongku said that one should always take up sports and games as hobbies regardless of age as it helps in ‘boosting’ physical and emotional/ mental health.

He also encouraged the players to excel in academic fields as well as sports. He also offered to give continuous support to all those who bring laurels in the field of games and sports.

Yum Pangku, president Tirap Olympic Association, S Bangsia, Chairperson ‘Care Me Home’, Bimal Thapa, coach, representative from Ollo Students’ Union, medalists and parents also attended the event. (DIPRO)
