2-day nat’l seminar on ‘Women in Sports today…’ launched at RGU

RONO HILLS, Nov 23: A two-day national seminar on ‘Women in Sports today and beyond’ organized by the Department of Physical Education and National Centre for Sports Science Research, MYA & S, Govt of India, RGU, Arunachal Pradesh in support of National Commission of Women, New Delhi, was inaugurated here on Monday.

Sport has tremendous power to generate real social, economic and environmental change and contribute to sustainable development, social cohesion and even to challenge mindsets. It has made a huge contribution in gender equality.

The inaugural function was attended by Taba Tedir, Minister Education and president AOA as chief guest, Prof Vivek Pandey, Vice Chancellor (officiating) LNIPE, Gwalior as guest of honour, Soma Biswas, an Olympian and Arjuna Awardee as special guest, Prof Vasanthi Kadhiravan, Prof & Head Deptt of Physical Education, University of Mumbai as keynote speaker, Prof Saket Kushwaha, VC Rajiv Gandhi University, Dr Subash Basumatary, Rtd Regional Director SAI, Dr Anil Mili, Coordinator Sports Science, RGU and Dr Sambhu Prasad, Head Deptt of Physical Education, among others.

More than 200 participants attended the inaugural programme in which a total of 106 scientific research papers were received from researchers all over the nation.
