Four-day Joy of Reading Campaign draws to a close

TEZU, Jan 27: A four-day ‘Joy of Reading Campaign’ involving eight schools of Anjaw district, organized by the ADC Hayuliang in collaboration with the Bamboosa Library, Tezu and the Forum of Activists of Lohit Youth Libraries, Medo concluded at Hayuliang in Anjaw district on Thursday.

“Bamboosa Library volunteers have been excellent trainers, spreading the joy of reading in Anjaw for several years. Teachers in Anjaw too should develop as trainers in reading promotion activities,” said Sotalilum Bellai, Addl Dy Commissioner, Hayuliang, while inaugurating the Campaign at the GUPS Swamy Camp school in Hayuliang sub-division of Anjaw district on Jan 23.

The four-day event, coordinated by A Ngadong, BEO, Hayuliang for District Education Dept covered eight schools viz GUPS Swamy Camp, Chameliang, Yatong, Manchal Goiliang, Gamliang, KGBV Supliang and the Sunrise School Hayulaing. Of these, four schools were having a reading event for the first time.

The concluding event of the campaign was a Joy of Reading Book Exhibition during the Republic Day celebrations at Hayuliang, which was inaugurated by ADC Bellai, in presence of Col Arun Kumar MS, CO of an artillery unit in Anjaw, OC APP Hayulaing, K Techi and other officers of the district admin. He lauded the library volunteers for putting up an attractive display, with reader-friendly titles from reputed publishers like NBT, CBT, Tulika, Eklavya, Ektara, Kalpavriksh and the Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.

The Reading training sessions during the campaign were conducted by Keselo Tayang, Bethem Marai & Sakelu Chikro of the Forum of Activists along with Ruwatso Tawsik, BEd trainee from the Denning College for Teacher Education (DCTE), Tezu and the Coordinator, Lohit Youth Libraries.

They included several new poems and story narrations, including a few rhymes in Mishmi (Kaman ) language, which the listeners, of all ages, enjoyed immensely.

ADC Bellai at GUPS Swamy Camp and Col Arun Kumar at KGBV Supliang attended a few sessions of poem recitation and story-telling with keen interest and congratulated the library volunteers for their dedication and enthusiasm to promote reading habits among students in remote villages.

The ADC also assured to organize more such events in the next academic year to train a cadre of resource persons for reading promotion in the sub-division.
