Arunachal crowned ‘overall champion’ in maiden Khelo India Women's Senior National Wushu League

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The State team emerged as overall champion under Taolu category in the 1st Khelo India Women's Senior National Wushu League 2022-23, concluded recently at Chandigarh University, Mohali in Punjab, according to a press note issued by the All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association (AAPWA)

In all, the State team clinched 10 medals (six gold, one silver and three bronze) in the championship, organized by the Wushu Association of India from 23rd to 27th January.

Of the total, the State team secured eight medals (five gold and three bronze) in Taolu events and two medals (one each of gold and silver) in Sanda category.

In Taolu category, Arunachal Pradesh was followed by Manipur (first runners-up) and Madhya Pradesh (second runners-up).

The medalists in Taolu category include Nyeman Wangsu (gold in Changquan), Mepung Lamgu (two golds in Taichiquan &Taijijian), Mercy Ngaimong (two golds in Jianshu & Qianshu), Realu Boo (bronze in Taijijian) and Yorna Rosni (two bronzes in Nanquan & Nandao).

The medal winners in Sanda include Onilu Tega (gold under 52 kg category) and Gyamar Yatup (silver under 48 kg category).

The State team was led by Kishen Chetia as coach and Likha Tadh as manager.

Arunachal joined 27 other states and nine Union Territories of the country along with paramilitary forces in the maiden Khelo India Wushu tournament for women.

Meanwhile, the AAPWA team led by its president Tach Tadar, Abo Lukham (GS) and Taring Liyak (treasurer) accorded a warm welcome to the triumphant squad at Naharlagun railway station this morning.
