Accused in APPSC paper leak case granted bail

| Staff REPORTER |

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: One of the arrested accused in the APPSC paper leak case, Anam Jerang was granted bail by the District & Sessions Court, Yupia today.

Confirming this, a lawyer informed that the bail was granted on grounds that the investigating agency, CBI, failed to file chargesheet within 90 days.

“Even if the CBI had brought in the best of the best lawyer, he would still be granted bail as they failed to file chargesheet within the time frame,” commented the lawyer.

It may be mentioned that Jerang was arrested on October 30 last year for allegedly buying the question paper of APPSCCE-2017, which he was appearing in. Though he had gotten hold of the question paper, he could not pass the exam as he was left behind with 0.5 marks. He was arrested along with his broker wife, UDC Opet Mibang.

Meanwhile, one administrative officer and four assistant engineers (AEs) arrested in the case have been terminated from their jobs. The CO of Gusar circle, Opet Mibang, recruited during APPSCCE-2017 has been terminated. Others who were sacked from service are Ponpaul Ering, Karik Darang, Eagle Sora and Kendar Bagra - all AEs in the Rural Works Department.
