GANDHINAGAR (Gujarat), Feb 7: The School of Security, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) here organized a special lecture on the “Right to Information” for its students, research scholars, faculty members, and staff on Monday.
Suresh Chandra, Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission delivered a special lecture on the topic. He remarked on the journey, and major milestones with respect to the passing of the RTI Act.
Basic terms and tier structure of the RTI Act, definition, information, publishing of information, Public authorities, obligations, and responsibilities of CPIOs & CAPIOs have been discussed. He highlighted prominent aspects of RTI, such as the time limit for giving information, third-party information, classified information, exempted public authorities, grievance redressal authority, penalty provision, and appeal.
The impact of RTI on the functioning of the Government and the life of the citizens under the Constitution of India has been elaborated. The complexities of procedures & departmental instructions, circulars, orders, important court rulings, and orders of CIC on the Right to Information Act with special reference to case laws were also included in his deliberation. He also discussed the kind of information that can be sought under the RTI and also the type of information, which may be refused by the institutions.
The dignitaries on the dais included Prof (Dr) Bimal N Patel, Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Anand Kumar Tripathi, Pro-VC, RRU. The chief guest was felicitated by Prof Patel. The event culminated with a vote of thanks given by Dr Tripathi.
