Seminar on ‘higher education in context of NEP 2020’ organized

TEZU, Feb 11: A one-day ICSSR-sponsored national seminar on the theme “Higher Education in the context of National Education Policy (NEP), 2020” was held in Indira Gandhi Govt College, Tezu on Friday. Eminent scholars from different parts of the country participated in the seminar, which was organized by the Department of Education, IGGC in collaboration with Dening College of Teacher Education, Tezu.

Delivering the keynote address, North Eastern Hill University’s Economics Professor Bhagirathi Panda, also the honorary Director of ICSSR-NERC, analysed at length the genesis and conceptual framework of NEP-2020. He stressed on the need to go for research, inclusivity and benchmarking of quality education in the context of NEP-2020, at par with the global education scenario. He also emphasized the changing role of the teacher from instructor to facilitator.  Prof Panda called upon all stakeholders, including teachers and students to work in synergy for the successful implementation of NEP 2020.

IGGC principal and chief patron of the seminar, Dr Kamki Megu, in his introductory remarks, highlighted the multifaceted aspects of the NEP 2020 along with its challenges. Chairman of the Denning College of Teacher Education Er Badang Tayang spoke on the importance of NEP 2020 and how it will affect the education system of the country.

Later, Rajiv Gandhi University’s professors T Lungdim, Elizabeth Hangsing and PK Acharya, and Dr AK Mishra, SLO, Directorate of Higher Education presided over different technical sessions. The faculty members as well as research scholars from various institutions of higher education of the state presented research papers which generated scholarly discussions.
