2 drug peddlers arrested with 48.74 gram heroin

ITANAGAR, Mar 18: The Pasighat Police on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers in the oldest administrative town of Arunachal Pradesh and recovered 48.74 gram suspected heroin from their possession, a senior police officer said.

Those arrested were identified as Altab Hussain (48), a resident of Tinali Bengali Gaon (Parbadpur) under Namrup police station area in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, and Binod Sahani (40) of Dalangghat village in Tinsukia district.

East Siang district Superintendent of Police Sumit Kr Jha said that based on specific information received regarding sale of contraband by two persons staying in a hotel at Pasighat, a police team, led by SDPO Pankaj Lamba and comprising of Pasighat PS OC Inspector Otu Gao, SI Kari Pertin and others, was constituted to conduct raid with the help of ‘Sibut Anti Drugs Team’.

The team then reached the spot and on personal search in the presence of Executive Magistrate Nancy Yirang recovered 48.74 grams of suspected heroin from conscious possession of the two Assam residents.

Subsequently, an FIR (No 16/2023) under Section 21(b) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered at Pasighat PS, the SP informed while adding that further investigation is on to find backward and forward linkages and their other associates.
