Decks cleared for MoA signing with CPSU

Cabinet nod to recall new APPSC Chairman & Members

ITANAGAR, Mar 29: The State Cabinet, in its 7th meeting of the year chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday gave its ‘go ahead’ signal for proposed inking of memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) for the development of hydropower in the State, which will unlock the potential five hydroelectric projects (HEPs) with an installed capacity of 2820 MW.

“The Cabinet approved the MoA to be signed with CPSU for development of Hydropower in the State. This will pave the way to unlocking potential 5 HEPs with an installed capacity of 2820 MW. This will spur huge investment in the State and generate employment,” a statement from the CMO said.

Further, the Cabinet gave its nod to “recall” the order of new Chairman and Members of APPSC (Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission) and recommended the same to the Governor for recalling the appointment orders of 7th February 2023.

Mention may be made that the State Government had to cancel the scheduled swearing-in of newly-appointed APPSC Chairman and three Members on February 17 last following fierce protests from the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee and its supporters.

The post of APPSC chairman and members had fallen vacant due to resignation of the then chairman and members from their respective posts in October 2022 following the APPSC-conducted Assistant Engineer (Civil) Mains examination paper leak scam that came to the forefront in August last year. A total of 415 candidates had appeared in the said examination conducted on August 26 and 27 for 33 AE posts.

Presently, the paper leak case is being investigated by the premier probe agency, CBI.

“In today's Cabinet meeting, the Kaling Tayeng Committee on restructuring the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service was deliberated in detail. The Cabinet approved in principle a major part of the Committee’s recommendation. This will pave way for a robust State Civil Service,” the statement said.

Cabinet also approved the proposal for renewal of MoA and support to 4 events - Arunachal Got Talent, Arunachal Idol, Miss Arunachal and Mr Arunachal - for another 3 years as Annual Calendar Events from the fiscal year 2023-24 with increased grant-in-aid of Rs 80 lakh from existing Rs 40 lakh. These events have nurtured a huge pool of talents who have made the State proud at the national level, it added. (UNI)
