RGU hosts two-day climate change seminar

RONO HILLS Mar 29: A two-day national seminar on “Climate Change and Adaptation Strategies for Sustainable Livelihood” was conducted by the faculty of Environmental Sciences, Rajiv Gandhi University on March 27-28 last.

Addressing the seminar, the chief guest P L N Raju, Director, Assam State Space Application Centre, Guwahati has stressed on the importance of development of science and technology and its use in predicting weather and natural hazards, and providing connectivity in remote areas.

The keynote speaker Prof C Jegannathan, Dean, Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra delivered a lecture on rainfall pattern and its relationship with forests and climate with examples ranging from global phenomena to local issues.

RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, who chaired the inaugural session, while addressing congratulated the team for choosing a very important topic which is relevant for the present scenario and highlighted changing agricultural pattern with global climate change.

The university Registrar Dr NT Rikam, and Dean (Academic Affairs) Prof PK Panigrahi were among others who attended the seminar, which saw 35 of the participants presenting their research work. The seminar highlighted the climate change and its effects on environment, climate, biota and livelihood, stated a press release here.
