APP arrests 5 persons in connection with Assam-Arunachal firing incident

ITANAGAR, Jun 6: Acting promptly, the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) has arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in yesterday’s firing incident along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border that claimed the life of two persons and left two others seriously injured.

“Five persons have so far been arrested in connection with the firing incident that took place on Monday,” Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) PRO Rohit Rajbir Singh said on Tuesday. “The arrests were made today,” he said.

The arrestees have been identified as Bagam Tasso, Igip Tasso, Mikjom Tasso, Bompar Tasso and Yongam Nguba, the PRO said.

The violent incident erupted when miscreants from the inter-state border area came in and opened fire on the people from the Assam side, who were planting trees in Dhemaji district’s Panbari area bordering Arunachal’s Lower Siang district, as part of World Environment Day celebrations.

Following the incident, a peace meeting was held (at Gogamukh) between both sides of the inter-state border. Moreover, Likabali MLA also chaired a meeting involving the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police from both the districts. Moreover, security forces have been deployed at the disputed area. The situation is normal now. All normal activities are going on and there is no problem for the common man, the PRO said.

A case was registered at Likabali Police Station under Sections 147/148/149/302/201/34 IPC r/w Sec 25/27 Arms Act.

Appalled by the ghastly incident, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured that the state government will investigate into the matter and action will be taken against those involved in the heinous crime.

“…My heart goes out to the families of the lives lost. This senseless act of violence cannot be tolerated. Strict directions have been issued to apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous crime. Justice must prevail and the guilty must face the full force of the law. We cannot let such acts go unpunished,” Khandu has tweeted.

Meanwhile, Assam DGP GP Singh while confirming the arrest of five accused persons said in a tweet that the Assam Police would take them in custody following due procedure. (UNI)
